Since this is my first movie post, I will start out by saying I am no critic nor expert in this area…just simply someone who enjoys entertainment and writing about it. That being said, I just saw Jon Favreau’s, The Jungle Book this past weekend. Wow, bravo! What a beautiful film this was! Not only did he capture a world so stunning, you felt as if you were journeying through the jungle alongside Mowgli himself, but it also brought back so many nostalgic memories thinking back to when I first saw Disney’s animated version as a child. The world that Jon Favreau, and screenwriter Justin Marks created in this rendition of the film seemed as if it were paying homage to, and was slightly reminiscent of what James Cameron created in Avatar. It blows my mind nowadays how far the movie industry has been able to take Special FX and create these visuals that are not only breathtaking, but that appear to be 100% real. The animals in this film, from Shere Khan the tiger, to Kaa the python, to Bagheera the panther, to Baloo the bear, and so on, were realistic in the most uncanny way! Not only was the story-line and world that Jon created effective, but these digitally-crafted characters (alongside child newcomer, Neel Sethi, who was adorable in this movie by the way) were successful in bringing tears of joy and sorrow to my eyes at the same time….incredible…touching, really. If you’re reading this and you were anything like me, imagine how you might have felt seeing the Disney version of this movie as a child….how even animation and story-line back then could touch you in an emotional way, to now, 2016…really tugging at your heart strings with what appears to be a real world, with real animals in it…speaking to one another, engaging upon one another’s emotions…all in the most stunningly visual way. Needless to say, I think you can gather from this post that I loved this film! It’s a refreshing piece of entertainment that offers important and valuable life lessons, takes you on an emotional journey, contains great acting as well as groundbreaking special fx—it has it all! I’d definitely say this is one that’s a family movie must-see!
