Want to sip on something light and refreshing in the hot summer heat? I’ve got just the libation for you! Over Fourth of July weekend, my brother and sister-in-law introduced me to their version of a Basil Martini–I like to call it the ‘Green Goddess.’ And yes, these babies are easy to sip on, but even easier to throwback…so just beware….they’re THAT GOOD if you like basil ;). And even if you don’t, I suggest just trying it. The nice thing about this herb is it’s an easy one to grow yourself at home. I’ve got a little pot of basil sitting in our kitchen window sill–it only needs a splash of water each morning, and I find myself constantly using it in different food/drink recipes. All in all, this one definitely seems to be a party hit! Cheers everybody, and drink responsibly!
Here’s how to make it:
-1/2 Shot of fresh Lime Juice
-6-7 Basil leaves, muddled
-2 1/2 Shots of Vodka (I like Chopin, Grey Goose, or Tito’s)
-1 Shot of homemade **Simple Syrup with Basil**
Mix & shake all of the above contents together with Ice in a martini shaker, and pour over a martini glass. Garnish with a fresh leaf of basil if you’d like!
**Here’s how to make the Simple Syrup w/ Basil**
Boil 1/2 Cup Sugar and 1 Cup Water, until the sugar is dissolved. Once it’s dissolved, throw in a handful of basil and stir for 1 minute. Then turn off the stove, and let the mixture sit for 30 minutes to steep.
